VILLAGE EXPRIENCE
VILLAGE EXPERIENCE
In the morning we were out for the show
Talking here-talking there, discussion galore!
In politic we talked, in sport we talked and in religion we discussed
The good and bad of ladies we talked
Those things we called talking or talking nothing but gossiping
Here we are in the bar to, drink palm wine or ‘burukutu’
How many sticks of cigarette consumed
In the afternoon we rest- to rest with a damsel beside us
After dinning with food she prepared
What again? Back to the shrine ‘Ori–oke’ here we come
Plenty ‘pomo’ as we evaporate palming
Serve me the ‘pomo’ –serve me the kola
Through the numberless calabashes
Now the flow of politics –through our tipsy
Who is a demagogue? Who is a statesman?
Which party is a conservative or progressive?
What about corruption in the centre government
How many trouble igniting through this
Trouble here-trouble galore
A day I will leave village for city
Though I will miss my friends and the foes alike
Because not all are friends in the shrine
