    Heartache

Hair matted down on her angry face
Where must she go for a little space
The fire burns bright in her empty eyes
Unwillingly to hear more deafening lies

Her body slides down the abrasive wall
Her heart is there to break the fall
She feels the pain ripping her apart
And shes too familiar with a broken heart

She has no defenses, no way to protect
She's bound to the heartache she cannot accept
She struggles to find a simple plan
To keep herself safe from another man

Left all alone to her own devices
Its her security that truly sacrifices
She builds up a wall at an alarming rate
"Not again" she cries, it must be fate

Fighting to keep her strength and her wit
But inside she's dying, dealing with it
She watches in horror as he turns to leave
She smiles, gives kisses and tries to deceive

That nothing is broken, nothing is wrong
She tries to stay sane and tries to stay strong
She needs no one else in this terrible life
She's done it alone and handled the strife

It just makes her stronger with every fight
It follows her through days and into the night
She learns to love no one every day
Because during the hard times they never stay

She cries all alone on the bathroom floor
As she watches him disappear out the door
She should've known better than give him her heart
But she never imagined he'd rip it apart

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
