    Innocence

O Innocence! Where have you gone?
It seems like yesterday that you befriended me
Allowing me to enjoy the simple pleasures of being a child
Believing in the things no one could see
    Seeing what no one believes
You allowed me to be mindless and careless to the world around me
As I grew older, we grew apart
For I became curious about the world
Lusting for the sinful satisfactions this world has to offer
Fell to the darkness that lies within my heart
Endured the pleasures that make feel like a different person
    I’ve fallen away from you
Drown to the bottom of the bottle
fell to the ground with my drunken stupidity
    endured painful memories
I’m no longer the soul you once knew

O Innocence! Where have you gone?
For our children follow the same path
They become subjected to the violent rage this world creates
their hearts bleed for sexual satisfactions
lusting for the sinful pleasures that the darkness brings
they ripped the wings of a butterfly
not seeing the beauty that lies within
they search for answers that God has not yet provided
    Where did you go?
Our children have fallen from Grace
Their wings are wounded from temptation
    Beauty is gone forever

O Innocence! Why did you go?
Our lives have been taken away from the child we once knew.
Is this the image you wanted to see?
Who do we blame for these transgressions?
    Eve for eating the fruit?
    Satan for his temptations?
O Innocence! Why did you leave?
We need you more than ever.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
