My Christmas Cheer

My Christmas Cheer

In Bethlehem of Judea, The Christ child He was born,

And Herod and his armies meant to put this child to scorn.

While wise men in their fields gazed upon the brilliant star,

They packed their bags with incense and took the journey far.

When they came upon the baby, they presented Him with gifts,

For never had they seen a child with glory such as this.

They fell upon their faces and sweet incense they did burn,

For this baby was the Savior of which they all had learned.

Now during this Christmas season it’s this birth my heart does see,

And the sweetest incense I can burn comes from the heart of me.

This baby in a manger, He was born my Savior dear,

And oh how much I love Him.

This is my Christmas Cheer.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
