    The Woman She Is

    The Woman She Is…

Like Anna a woman of prayer who worshipped day and night,

Never lacking in her zeal, serving the Lord with all her might.

Like Ruth so strong and generous, giving loyal friendship to the end,

Pointing to our Kinsman-Redeemer the most precious of all friends.

    She is…

Like Deborah “mother of Israel” the prophetess who believed,

Whose courage enabled people from the oppressor to be freed.

Like Hannah who weeping poured her anguished heart out to her God,

And proclaimed His power and goodness for the miracle she saw.

Like Elizabeth who walked upright in the sight of God,

One who first acknowledged Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God.

    She is…

Like Lydia the firm believer, God met her deepest needs,

Her entire household soon would follow, the Godly example she would lead.

The God of Israel, the God of Sarah, of Rebekkah and Rachel too,

The Faithful One of Leah, Miriam and Deborah too,

The God who healed Joanna, who witnessed the Resurrection of our Lord,

He is the same Almighty One my mother now adores.

I thank her for her stand, a godly mother I can say,

For her wisdom and compassion that often saves the day.

May God grant her peace within by calming rivers from above,

And walk her through green pastures, send your love on wings of doves.

Thank you Lord my Father for my mother, friend so dear,

A “gift”- my godly mother, I will cherish every year.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
