The Covenant

The Covenant

I will take the children of Israel from the lands where they have gone,

I will gather them as one nation, and I will forgive them of all wrong.

They shall dwell in the land of Jacob, where their fathers once did dwell,

And FOREVER they shall stay, and drink living waters from my well.

An everlasting covenant of peace, I will make with those I love,

They shall be my people, and I will call them “my beloved”.

I will plant them in a home, the nation of Israel it shall be,

Never more shall they be moved, all other nations soon shall see.

Clean, living waters I will sprinkle upon those I call my own,

A new heart of love I’ll give you, my mercy will be shown.

Thou shalt spread across the west and to the east thy seed shall go,

And all families of the earth through you my blessing I will show.

The land of Israel it shall blossom and the world shall see her bud,

Fruitful shall she be, by the covenant of my love.

The fir tree and the pine tree, and the box tree shall there be,

And peace shall reign forever,

FOR THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL YOU SHALL SEE.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
