    Poem Commentary

This is what can happen with the wrong person in your life.

    Nothing Left

    Nothing Left

    I’ve bent steel bars

    I’ve broken many chains

    I’ve brought down tall walls

    I’ve helped nations to change

I’ve gave life and I’ve laid them to rest

But with you, I have nothing left

Wasted away a young man with a gift

Wore down like the rain, on garnet I guess

Spend time with each child raised them my best

    Worked my body to death

    Held friends at my side

    Strangers I bless

    Help those in need

But with you, I have nothing left

Wasted away a young man with a gift

Wore down like the rain, on garnet I guess

From nothing to something, to holding the world

    To caring for the sick

    Tending for the old

Holding the hands of one who’s lost

Cheated death with a friend standing at the edge

    Life’s abbes

But with you, I have nothing left

Wasted my life away, a young man with a gift

Wore down like the rain, on garnet I guess

Nothing more to say, nothing left to do

You’ve took it all from me

    Hope is dead

I did what they said, again and again

I left it with my God He left it with you

     Nothing left

    You left nothing left

     Ya, you left nothing left

    Mareann commented on Nothing Left

    11-02-2009

A poem full of raw passion, feeling like you did everything right but everything went wrong. Now an empty feeling of what is left, what is left to take? You wrote this very powerful poem well. Your expression was right on target. Good write, good read. Mareann

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
