She Waits

    She Waits

She sits and waits in her lawn chair
For someone to visit someone who cares
She watches the road looking for a sight
A vision to tell her everything is all right

But no one comes to rescue her today
No one but the staff walk through her day
She watches the road looking for a sign
A happy smile screaming visiting time

No son comes to see her; the sun goes to sleep
No granddaughter reads to her she starts to weep
No letters or cards grace her plain nursing home walls
They placed her in purgatory and then forgot to call

What had she done to deserve such a lonely fate?
Her caretakers are friendly, but to her it is all fake
These sterile walls feel more like a prison
Especially with no one to listen

Resigned and condemned to this elderly warehouse
She waits as she cries so small like a mouse
The morning brings a brand new dawn
So she sits and waits in her chair on the lawn

This was sad and touching. And I think very realistic. I remember when we had to think about putting my grandfather in a nursing home and he didn't want to go, just for that reason. It is so depressing there and I think no one visits, because they feel uncomfortable.

OMG! I love it. It's heart wrenching, but beautiful.

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
