    Poem Commentary

Dad you are a hard act to follow.

    The Burdon Of The son

Lift me from the ashes of my domain
Cleanse me with the warm summer's rain
unlock my soul from the halls of it's pain
then fill my heart with life
    til I can stand nomore.

Help me rise from the depths which I fell
rescue me from the bitter cold as well
allow me a less tragic story to tell
by filling my heart with life
    til I can stand nomore.

Lead me to the beginning of the road
Burden me with your heaviest load
fit me and shape me into your mode
and you will fill my heart with life
    til I can stand nomore

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
