That Should Be Me
It all seems like a movie to me.
The smiling and laughing; the "I do"s and a kiss.
It all goes by in s l o w motion-
just like an old movie.
You look stunning in your black tuxedo.
She looks breathtaking in her long, white gown.
I can't help but think...
that should be me.
The first dance is just for the newlyweds-
how sweet.
The guests all watch, tears welling up in their eyes.
You both look so happy,
so in love
And all I can think is...
that should be me.
She rests her head on your shoulder.
You hold her close and whisper something in her ear.
She smiles up at you and you smile back.
A small yet passionate kiss is exchanged.
And I can't help but think...
that should be me.
As the dance comes to an end, she makes her way to the table in the back-
The table I've been standing at the whole time.
You come up behind her and wrap your arms around her waist.
She smiles as she picks up a silver picture frame.
The picture it holds....
is mine.
"I miss her." she whispers softly.
She turns to face you.
"As do I." you whisper. "But now, I have you. And I love you."
Another passionate kiss is exchanged.
I can feel my heart breaking into a million pieces.
The tears I've been fighting to hold back break free and I scream,
"That should be me!"
But you don't hear me.
No one hears me.
Because I'm not really there.
