The Chase

  • Been on a hiatus for awhile, but I'm back and have the itch to write some poetry.

The Chase

i've been speeding down the fast lane
quick as i can go
trying to outrun the pain
and all of my whoa
but it seems the trouble's faster
i can see it in my mirror
its been gaining since last year
and its getting even nearer
should i stop and let it pass me
and hope it sails on by
or should i keep on running
till the day that i die
i think i'll do a u-turn
and look it face to face
it's time that i end this hurt
i'm tired of this chase

Only when you stretch the stuffing out of "tired" and say Ti-yurd does the last line work. Maybe better to say "fed up with" Sorry the perfectionist just slipped out. I liked this poem and rational philosophy.

Excellent...again, simple powerful words to express your determination to look life square in the face...when we do, usually the first thing we realize is that the thing we were running from is not quite the terror we imagined it to be.

You captured the realism of life's troubles. Most of us are running, some of us are hiding, while others are learning to face it head on. I could feel the tension, passion, indecision, and determination... Keep up the great work. I have most recently learned to "...u-turn and look it face to face..." because nothing is resolved in the chase. Thanks for your poetic justice.

Great Job!! Speaks of life itself. You will reach many readers with this poem. I have been writing for a long time now and I can honestly say that this one opens many potential avenues of discussion - the entire journey was well painted! :))

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
