    Why

What kind of evil invented this form of hell?

Whistling bullets and the scream of the shell.

Exploding bombs always leave many dying,

Wounded screaming and some even crying.

Power, religion and greed all reasons to fight,

Excuses, excuses has always been mans plight.

Fighting continues while the politicians digress

While the families do mourn in much distress.

War to end wars it’s has often been said,

Can some explain why are so many dead.

Must thousands more really have to die?

Please can someone tell me why Oh WHY?

    Pyper.

The term "necessary evil" comes to mind. So sad, but it is an ugly truth, sir....many in my family marched to this tune...with grim faces and their inner core resolute. Why? Because the meek, and peaceful are taken over by the Hitler's of this world. The precious blood of our dear boys is spilt every day, insuring our freedom. All of my blood is intact and on safe soil with me. War is awful...but freedom is bought with a price.. A beautiful heartfelt poem that is the lament of not only many, but myself also.

I also had to march to this tune with many comrades lost but not forgotten

A friend from Vet Nam describes what I feel. ""War solves nothing." how long will mankind persist in this crazy behavior?

Godsmack, This poem reminds me of when I was driving through VT yesterday and saw the National Guard troops. I read somewhere the #'[s of soldiers that have perished in the 2 wars (Iraq & Afghanistan), and for that little state with a small population the numbers were astronomical. This poem says it all and I am disgusted that these wars are allowed to continue. A wake-up call this poem is! ginga

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
