    A Song Long Lost

    From the far depths of my mind;
    A song can be heard.
    A song from long ago,
    Back when everything was simpler.
    A tune no one else can hear.
    Lyrics that have long been forgotten.
    A beat that soothes my troubled mind.
    When did I hear this song?
    Who sung this to me?
    Why did I forget?
    Will I ever remember?
    A song that was sung at bedtime.
    A voice that sounded like heaven.
    A kiss to each cheek.
    A blanket tucked ever so tightly.
    A hand through my hair.
    Whispers I can no longer recognize.
    Words no longer coherent.
    From the depths of my mind;
    A song can be heard.

    When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
