    the picture

    I don't know her
I only saw her in a picture
and then, only the back of her head and shoulders
    she was facing a horse
whose eyes seem to reflect the kindness of hers
her hands on the neck of the horse
    soft and purposeful
    her hair, soft and pretty
    her fingers long and elegant
the picture stays captured within me
like a sunrise in the mountains
    on a clear Autumn morning
or the sun going down at sea
    slowly sinking
you want it to stay at that perfect spot on the horizon
you want to hold it up
    keep it from falling
hold that one moment for forever
I’ve never been taken so much
by a picture of the back of someone
I’ve never before carried in my mind
a face that I’ve never seen

A mental picture that lasts and lasts. I have one of my husband looking for something in a field of bluebonnets. Just a fluke, but the contrast between the two really brought out the masculinity of him. Wonderful poem. Write on..............Tlady

Your work makes me "unlonely". I don't curse the darkness, but celebrate the existence of the light. If there were more like you we would all need bigger hearts.Nice piece

spoken from the true heart of a poet When you see beauty and love in a picture then your heart is in tune with life . Loved the poem Lane but love all your work Marie

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
