    Nocturnal

In the folding cloak of hyemal night,
moon's riding the starlit eyes of sky
Duets lonely howling, echoing from heights.
Gray wolf and wind's caroling harmonies cry.

From the bough, woo-oh, woo-oh, chants Eagle Owl.
Muted silence, swift flight surprises talon's prey.
Nocturnal reaper, six foot spans on winged fowl.
Unfortunate victims won't behold the light of day.

Fog clouds forest floor obscuring the devil cat.
Brave gladiator of all the glowing eyes survey.
Black cougar, black panther prowls nights habitat.
Mimicking womans' screaming, it's warnings to convey.

When the moon creatures come out to play,
'tis better to be by hearths cozy warm fires.
When the beauty of nature flips; respect pays.
Don't falter into natures nocturnal beauties attire.

the cycle of predator/prey remains a constant and we should respect natures balance. with shelters diminishing for creatures in the wild they will protect the space they have left. these are great words that show your respect for our threatened wildlife GebtleT.

I enjoyed this. Don't know about spending a night outside in GA. When do you sit outside to hear the summer symphony? I heard all the night sounds you've given voice to, and I'm sitting close to the fire. TS

Thanks bandit your comment made me smile. I do sit on the porch but don't venture into the woods.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
