    Questions

Why does it hurt so much
    To just be alive?
    It seems everything
    Has taken a dive
    Down to the depths
    Where joy doesn’t go
    Why am I caught up
    In such woe?
    I want to be happy
    I want to be glad
But no matter what I wish
    Its all so sad
    Where is redemption
    From this unnecessary pain?
    Not in the sun
    Not in the rain
    Is it with a person
    That I hold dear?
    I doubt that
    There’s too much fear
    Is that the key
    To make this go?
    But I’m too yellow
    To ever know.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
