    Toyland

    All is tranquil
    In Toyland
    The birds and butterflies flutter
    But eternally stay in place
But look down at the catastrophe
    Poor, scattered toys
    Laying in piles of wreckage
    The child menace has passed
    But the destruction remains clear
    Food is scattered
    Dolls are twisted and forgotten
    The ambulances are overturned
How could a lamb have caused such?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
