THE DOORS OF THE CHURCH ARE NOW OPEN

Walking in from the Parking Lot of Despair
Toward the Doors of Grace and Mercy,
The crowd grew from a plenty to the numerous,
And the individual quickly became the Congregation in need.
Approaching the Doors that remain open to the public,
While seeking entrance into the sanctuary of a privileged brotherhood.
All of Us with justified needs and rights to the Kingdom,
None of Us without our sin to be checked at the door.
As we rushed and jockeyed like horses for position,
All to get a proper place in our Master’s Stable.
    Our hearts open for Worship,
Our souls open for HIS Forgiveness.

All desired that Just Walk attained only through those Holy Doors.
Collectively seeking another sign of HIS Presence.
Passing through we all took a bulletin and greeted the Ushers.
Some gathered together seeking private selective conversations,
Many required an exclusive dialog between GOD and Themselves.

A gorgeous church going lady made a silent vow to stop cheating,
Just hoping that GOD would help her before her husband did.
An ex-offender whispered, “I just got out”.
A fellow brother responded, “My brother we are all praying for you”.
A second- time breast cancer survivor yelled out loudly “Praise Ye the Lord”,
As She overheard the music beyond the warm woody Welcoming Doors.
The spirit grew up in her so high,
That she simply bowed her head, and raised one hand to declare, “That’s my song”.

Apparently that was all of our song, because as we approached those Doors
Smiles grew on our faces to reflect HIS Glory.
For we were finally getting what was needed,
To be able to mask our past week’s transgressions.

Those Doors represented a GOD that was opening up his ears to hear his children,
Seeking Confessions of their many and varied short comings.
A people not worthy of HIS Grace nor Mercy,
But because of HIS Nature, HE went on anyhow.
It had only been Doors that kept GOD from hearing us,
And now we were finally going to get past them, and be granted an undeserved
    Face to Face.

As the line grew to get into the eleven o’clock Worship Hour,
Many of my fellow parishioners became more anxious than brotherly.
All of us wanted to get into that place,
Where we knew GOD would surely be.
One Usher quietly asked that we bring our voices to a halt,
As she gently got the inner Doors ready to lead us to our seats.

The Doors opened, we gathered two-by-two, some single-file, rushing, happy, in the right spirit, full of praise,
    ready for worship.

Such a powerfully moving piece. I got chills reading this. I see why it's one of your faves. I've also added it to my faves list as well. Thumbs up.

Speechless!, absolutely speechless! You write, I'll read. My hat is off, and I applaud you.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
