A Story By My Daddy.

My Daddy told me a story that I'll never forget,
Of a time when Britian ruled our lives and our wallets,
Unending rulership of this dominant colonial power,
Their prominence on our island was ending in an hour.

Daddy said, "I stood and watched as the Union Jack came down,
This was the greatest honor in years in cheering Kingston Town,"
He told me of this moment, with a single trickled tear,
"This was the moment waited for in all our challenging years."

Britian mother country ruled from 1655,
But had to leave Jamaica with many bullets and many strife,
"The Jewel in England's Crown," our nation proudly called,
For many tumultuous years before this great empire's fall.

And now Great Britian pulled away to our joy and our glee,
After years of colonial rule and great subserviency,
"Look how far we've come my son," my Daddy said to me,
"From Columbus and the Bucaneers and British Plantocracy".

Now we were made an independent state that day in 1962,
Leaving that colonial yoke away beyond the blue,
And so I looked on proudly as Jamaica captured gold,
In the Olympics in Bejing six times in single fold,
And they captured glittering bronze and silver too,
Making us much prouder Jamaicans that are true.

Jamaica had done something no other nation did before,
Shutting out the tracks most dominant and squarely settled score,
Mighty nations cried in awe as the fastest man in the world,
And not forgetting the dominance of the world's fastest girl!
It's Usain Bolt that showed the world when there are no doping cheats,
With a fairer playing feild they're vanquished in defeat!

And Shelley-Ann Fraser took her gold in the fastest sprint,
And dominated electronic media and all popular prints,
Yes Jamaica, great Jamaica, it is your time now,
To dominate the track and field and live up to your vows.
looking to the Father for all your strength above,
Eternal Father bless our land, Jamaica Land we love.

I'm sure Daddy would love to see this story unfold,
Surely, he would be very proud to know we have won gold,
This is a part of the dream he did not live to see,
So when I get to Heaven, he'll share all these joys with me!
