    Pray

The lightning crashes, the rain pours down
    hopelessness is all around
The thunder rolls, the earth it quakes
the children cry as they wake
The wind is fierce, the oaks they sway
deep inside I hear you pray
Now the birds they sing, the flowers bloom
day shines away all the gloom
smiles in lives, love in hearts
children wake to a better start
Unity has won, fear's gone away
all because I heard you pray

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
