"LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR"

"LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR"

So much ignorance disguised as hate
Because you or I are different
Should that seal our fate?

Because I have different religious beliefs
I don't push it on you or even speak of it
So what is the problem, all this grief?

I thought it was our right
To be who we want
To think like an individual, without the fright

Has it crossed your mind to read a book?
Instead of persecuting like years of old
Educate yourself, take a different look

It's not my business what one does behind their door
I don't care about color, religion, or sexual preference
In this day and age, it shouldn't even get the floor

Who are you to make the call?
Your interpretation of the bible
Allows YOU to put up that wall?

In this great land, stolen from my kin
We're supposed to be free thinkers
No matter what the color of our skin

How boring life would be
If we were all just the same
We were given free will, to think differently

Some things we do not choose
It's how we are born
That doesn't make us bad, we do not lose

The time has come to stop the hate
Love your neighbor for who they are
Don't fall into the trap or take the bate!

I discovered this poem and am glad I did. It contains a plethera of poetic common sense as it relates to human behavior.

this is an excellent statement regarding equality and the rights we all should share without prejudice. great thoughts Dori :D

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
