Poem Commentary

this is about the world people choose to live in, the world that is killing them...so afraid to leave behind cable tv, chained to the miserable convenience of modern living

Moving Inexorably Further Behind

faces of people
we see only briefly
hardly enough
to fill in the cavity

stressful morning
drifting through smog
armored against
any attempt to touch God

the sunlight is trapped
behind the mountains of my mind
the key clicks shut
the door to my crime

ravished to the point
of failure i climb
into the land
of fortunes decline

a drug i realize
someone must clasp
and render
into my grasp

a smoky unearthly haze
of tainted money
and simple greed
no spark of humanity

tasteless steaks
drenched in corn syrup
battered and dipped
grow like a polyp

slender avenues
hide the skyless views
another successful day
selling rainbows

islands of glass
trapped within
shouting at  nothing
wreathed in sin

people are not angels
demons are not men
women are devoted
to men who cannot win

forget about the future
wallow in the past
dreams are dangerous
habits to possess

images in the mirror
are closer
than they
appear

in case
of emergency
break glass
...

Hello~ It has been a while since I stopped by to read. Wow..very nice work here! "islands of glass" "land of fortunes decline" sharp lines and images convey intent clearly! I like it a lot!

I love this one, so much. It has a taste of everything we all have grown acustom to and what makes us wrench at the same time. It was designed beautifully and reaches it's goal. Thanks for sharing a piece of your soul. 10!

i grew up worshipping movies like jeremiah johnson and anything starring clint eastwood or paul newman...rugged individualist's, and i just see our society moving away from that, and it saddens me

My friend, this profound write tells me that you are in need of the forest or the coast or the mountains or the rivers, a desire to bring spirit back to nature, to our wounded mother, to heal with her; a desire for solitude, meditation, trance, deep breathing and motionless relaxation. The city's "modern iceberg" is an inner-spiritual-freeze, and most people have no idea that this is happening to them. "slender avenues hide the sky-less views" — this line speaks volumes of your frustrations and desires, spiritual needs and wants. Lovely!!

people are not angels demons are not men women are devoted to men who cannot win That is a perfect summation of some of society's woes. I agree that sometimes we are so sucked in that we forget to just sit back and admire the world in front of us and desire something more than the same old smoke and mirrors. But...hey...a drone wont moan if you enslave it...lol see how my old works with your new? Good one here man really...I enjoyed it. Your message speaks for itself. May the kudos be with you...cheers!!!

Sometimes we forget the beauty of the earth when we are to immersed in this modern world...We lost some humanity of us if we conform to much, we are not robots...Sometimes we must break free,,,break free from illusion...great imagery...I'm carried away by this writing...Great write...^_^ v

this poem started with a simple phrase i heard on tv, faces of people we see only briefly...it built from there...im glad you enjoyed it, thank you for reading my works

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
