Things My Mother Never Taught Me

Things My Mother Never Taught Me
    by brianlion

    Some people try to remember.
    Some people try to forget.

    Some people live to eat.
    Some people eat to live.

The best things in life are free.
The best things in life are expensive.

I have been poor, and I have been rich.
    Rich is better.

Too much of a good thing is... wonderful.

Daylight savings time is a waste of time.

Never take a laxative and a sleeping pill at the same time.

Sex is not the answer.  Sex is the question.
    Yes is the answer.

There are two types of music.
    Good and bad.

There are three types of people.
Super Human, Human, and Sub Human.

So far, this is the oldest I have ever been.

8 Tracks, cassettes, and vinyl albums are on the way out.
    I'm keeping them anyway.

I do not have a fear of heights.
I have a fear of falling down from heights.

Vegetarians are allowed to eat animal crackers.

I have always wanted to be a somebody.
I just should have been more specific.

Someone asked me if I ever had amnesia.
    I told them I couldn't remember.

Yes, there is humor in this poem. It is a subtle humor and though the verses are sparse; I found myself going back to reread and dwell a bit and though I used the word sparse.....it is deep.....and got the juices in my brain going. Definitely this poem challenged my senses, without even trying. If, I may intrude on the title to this poetry.......it is obvious you inherited a lot of charm.

It was wonderful to hear from you.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
