You Will Always Be My Baby

I prayed for a daughter, deep down I hoped for a son.
But you became what God wanted you to be.
I was thrilled to have another baby.
    A new life has begun.

As you grew I could see you were alot like me.
    My child in every way.
You were by my side everywhere I would go.
And togther we never had a bad day.

I've had my share of troubles in life,
But one thing I thought would always be,
You and I would always be together,
And you would always be my baby.

It's funny how circumstances sometimes change.
    And strong love goes astray.
I lost you as my loving child,
And you now seem far away.

The child I know now is almost grown,
Your childhood is going so fast.
I thought my baby would stay my baby forever.
I guess I wanted it to last.

Although I'm no longer with you,
You are always in my heart.
My constant prayer is someday we'll be together.
And have a brand new start.

I realize you are growing up fast.
And no longer think of me.
But I want you to know how much I love you.
And to let let you know you will always be my baby.

i wrote this in 1990 after I was divorced from my children. Since then, my son has grown, and i see him often...

my parents divorced around then. Although I don't see my dad as often as most see there fathers I love him alot. I'm also really happy he is with a new woman and experiencing having a child grow up from the ages we had been placed on different life paths. my dad put in much effort to understand us and look out for us even though he didn't get much time with us. I hope he has found the happiness with his girlfriend and her daughter and can find a life filled with all the things he deserves and given all the love he missed out on from our absense. he probably wouldn't believe me if I told him so I secretly pray for his eternal happiness everyday I wish him a life of love that he just can't get enough of i really do. take care

and let me just say me and my sister were not the easiest children to bring up, i was obnoxious and getting kicked out suicidal and really disrespectful and not so much like that any more i'm still pretty opinionated and out of control but not as wild but i wont be told. and my sister is so bossy and boy could she chuck a tantrum and when she was angryu at my father boy would he know about it. but my dad took it all without ever losing control or getting aggressive or mean, he really deserves alot of happiness and his patience with us kids and gosh my mum and her demands i'm proud to say my father is calm cool collected and his my dad and i think he is cool a pushover but never vengeful or cold and calculating. i'm proud to say his my dad he wouldn't know i think any of this, so don't think for a moment your children grow with no thoughts of there own on you.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
