    after the spring rain

    a rain-blasted tin foil sky
    hangs loosely as vanilla
    ice cream clouds, arrive
    lumbering like pregnant
    elephants through the blue
that seeps up from the cold
    horizon, platinum sunlight
    begins to blush softly ochre
    a rainbow postscript
holds up the arch of the sky
    briefly, tender motherly
    breezes waft over us
    from the south and
    shadows shaken off
the bare trees are broken up
    on the lemon lime grass
    like morse code or braille
for the fingers of the grass.
    throw the windows open
    scoop up the fly-wing
    confetti with a bleach water
    rag before fleeing the staleness
of winter indoors - - to the garden
    with crocuses and lipstick
    tulips kissing the wind's caress.
    iris stems hold up valises
    of seeds with an invitation
to the air to take her children.
    baby rabbits and squirrels
are gray on the lawn near
    the woods, curious and energetic
    and my cat, shark smooth
and dealing death stalks in slow
    motion, head still, eye intent
    swimming silently through wet
    grass but not fast enough.

Hi again. Isn't memory great, where we can recreate the things we love by just remembering them, and then we can make them "immortalize" them in poetry. I'd like to put some more up, but I don't know if its a good idea to have too many up at one time. What do you think?

    Ah so, you've read more than one of my poems. Kudos to you for enduring so many pretty words. I love writing what I see and trying to see more as a child who sees things new. I guess its my love of sci-fi showing through. I have created worlds in my mind - - something to do when I am bored. Maybe I should write some of my worlds in poetry. Wow, what a thought. I could write a group of poems all about a new and different world. Thank you for your comment and for inspiring a new thought! {After I work on it some, maybe I'll issue a challenge.}

this poem is packed with excellent visuals. you have a gift for painting wonderful pictures with your words. as lovers of nature we feed the birds and squirrels in our back yard and watch the neighborhood cats stalk but never come close enough to endanger them. that's due to the fact that we place the food stations out in the open away from the treachery of the shrubs to eliminate sneak attacks :D love this.

I was just saying to someone who commented on another one of my poems that I think there's enough darkness and sorrow in the world already, so I decided to write light and pretty most of the time. I have worked on some really challenging poems, and maybe I'll put one or two up one of these days. So, sharing what I see with others in my poetry is pleasing to me. I see the world through the proverbial rose colored glasses whenever I can. Have a great week, and thank you for taking the time to read my "pretty words." linlee

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
