    The Pull

    geese, wings genuflect
    together but out of unison
    the boatless wake knifes
    through blue water skies,
    long necks stretch like
    compass needles, straight
    stuck toward the magnet
    of the South, drawn, drawn
    like unavoidable addictions
    pulling invisible goose strings
    coaxing,inviting, siren songs
    sung only to goose brains
    in an ecstasy of strength.
    wings, powerful, pull each
    through the cool autumn air.
"I come" they honk and honk
    charismatic hymns as they
    raise wings in thanksgiving
    to angels flying among them.

living on the shoreline I have become familiar with the majestic beauty of the gulls and wild geese that grace the skies and beaches of my home town. I love your description of these wonderful creatures and of the inner magnetism they possess to sense location and navigate the thousands of miles they do in their lifetimes. your vision of their flying among the angels is powerful. I love this poem.

Thank you for this beautiful comment. I love nature; it's my source of peace and solace when I need it, and I especially love wild flowers and birds. I love anywhere where there is water, grass, trees, etc. Geese are amazing to me, though I don't like all their poops when I have to walk through a heavy goose populated area of a park. Thank you again for your comment. Any time you read any of my poetry, and you realize that something might make my poetry better, please share your ideas. I'm serious about what I write. linlee

It loses me a little bit at the last. Not that it's "charismatic hymns" & angels; but that the angels appear a bit unexpectedly for me. Stil, i really like the poem.

I definitely liked your comment and your idea that the angels were more like an afterthought than an integral a part of the poem as a whole. I'm going to work on it some more. Thank you so much. Always feel free to share constructive ideas for improvements, please. linlee

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
