    Cave Dweller

    Shine no light upon me;
    I wish to remain here,
    in despair's familiar shadow,
    occupied with yesterday's failures.
    Do not try to save me;
    I am warm here,
    cloaked by fear that
    wards off the chill of reality.
    I am content here;
    feeding on anger,
    drinking in hoplessness.
    Don't worry about me;
    comforted by insecurity,
    at home with defeat,
    I need not move.

    Sometimes we all feel like this but need to realize that what we call failures are merely life lessons and tests of character that we can use to help us make wiser choices and guide us to achieving our potential and developing a more positive outlook on life.A very well written poem.

    This is a spellbinding poem. Your way of letting the reader know that the character is sheltered even within their own psyche is amazing. Great creative write! Ginga

    It sounds like you're digging in, for the long haul; almost as if you won't come out of it, or at least not quickly... You do paint a very good picture of despair though... Easy to feel your pain with this one....

    GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY. YOUR POEM IS SO BEAUTIFULLY DEFENSIVE. IF YOU HAD NOT WRITTEN IT I WOULD ALMOST THINK YOU DO NOT CARE. BUT YOUR NEED IS UNDERLYING AND EVIDENT IN YOUR REACHING OUT FROM YOUR DARK COMFORTABLE CAVE AND FOR THAT I SALUTE YOU.

    If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
