    Scott, My Son

    In 1980 I said goodbye
As I watched you walk away.
Never dreaming it would be so long
That you would choose to stay.

    We didn’t share the closeness
Which I missed for all those years.
We didn’t share the happy times,
    We didn’t share the tears.

    Now your stint is over,
I hope that we can start
    A brand new relationship
    Even though we’re miles apart.

I’m asking God to bless you
In all you choose to do.
And bring success into your life
Now and your whole life through.

    There’s one thing to remember
Now your new life has begun.
“How very proud I am of you,
And how much I love you, Son!”

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
