    Northern Spring Harbinger

    The moose are out
    and all about;
they are not hard to find.
    Because it's spring,
    and once again,
on fresh greens they can dine.

    Up along the Androscoggin
on the sides of route sixteen,
    those giant gentle creatures
are part of the spring scene.

    Cows preparing for new births
    carry bellies heavy and full
Yearlings are on their own now
antlers are small on the bull.

    Swampy mudded roadsides
are where moose love to be
    hungry from their long winter
    they lick the salt contently.

    Long thick winter coats
    are shedding more each day.
    Soon shiny healthy fur
    they will proudly display.

Oh, you do give us the details of life where the green still flourishes.... your picture looks like Georgia, foothills of the Smoky Mtns. and cows carrying full bellies for spring births... just alive with so much life... such a contrast to the gray of roads and sidewalks, splashed with advertising signs in sharp contrast red. Really, very nice walk through your neck of the woods, and being our eyes as life wakens.... haven't seen a moose since a movie... :)

You have explained it perfectly. The constuction has pushed them away from my neck of the woods this spring. It's always a pleasant suprise to see them. Very nice my friend.

I like this "sping scene" picture you have painted with words. It is not a sight we southerners have a chance to experience, so thank you for bringing us your light.

Hi there! The moose are most prevalent during early spring-many are hit:( They love to lick salt on the sides of the road that was used on the roads in the winter-just yesterday 2 died-it is sad when they get hit-Namaste...Earthly

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
