Poem Commentary

I am a therapist for a living and this poem was written quite a few years back when I was working with a client with a "borderline personality disorder" diagnosis.  This is considered one of the most challenging form of mental health issue to deal with and this girl made me...and everyone else around her...feel like we were on an emotional roller coaster ride!  This is posted with warm thoughts of her and a smile, cause while she was difficult, she was still very important to me and full of life.  I hope that I made a difference in her life and I'm pretty sure she made one in mine.  As I help others, I grow myself...it just comes with the territory.  Best of luck to her, my friend!

Un-formed Identity

I should wear a warning lable
for all the world to see
that reads "watch out, be careful,
don't get to close to me."
I'm hot, I'm cold
I'm up, I'm down
and, sorry, when you least expect it
I just might let you drownd
You'll never know what to expect
my moods are crazy things
sometimes just to keep up with me
you'll need a set of wings
I'll pull you close, push you away
and call you back again
you'll one day be my enemy
the next day be my friend

Hey! This is a borderline personality disorder? This describes half the people I know! I like this piece but I agreewith dancinghawk, it feels like it should be longer. Nice write.

love this observation and the style of this piece ... feels like the beginning of a longer work ... like there might be a second verse of closure out there in the world somewhere ... thx for posting!

Thanks for your comment. I can't beleive I'm hearing that there might be more...usually my problem is my stuff goes too long, but I'll take a look and see if there is more that speaks to me. Thanks!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
