    Dedication

                                         The memories haunt me
                                       But the tears fall no more
                                As I think of the torture you brought
                                  Beginning at ages three and four

                                      You walked out of our lives
                                  But before then you raged havoc 
                       A real man would've known by the look in my eyes
                        How I reached for your love but couldn't grab it

                                 So tell me now exactly what it was
                                      Because I don't understand
                               Is that we didn't share the same blood
                            That I didn't receive love from your hands

                                  The beatings, tears, broken bones
                                            I remember it all
                                Not one time was I happy to go home
                                     Summer, winter, spring or fall

                                   Going to school making excuses
                                        For the shit that you did
                                Coming up with stores for the bruises
                                         Damn I was only a kid

                                        Why me... Tell me that
                                             I was so young
                             The same as your own kids just not as black
                                 Compared to them I was always dumb

                                   You treated me as if I didn't matter
                                         Beat me like I was a man
                                  A punching bag with bones to shatter
                                          But I continued to stand

                                    I often wonder if I saw you today
                                              What would I do
                                     Do I kick your ass or walk away
                                      Express how I feel about you

                                              No... My victory 
                                           Is because I made it
                                          The tears are history
                                              I appreciate it

                                 Because of you I had the will to go on
                                             Follow my dreams
                                  I'm more of a man and I am strong
                             I'm sure you couldn't know what that means

                                           So to my step father 
                                          I dedicate this to you
                                 It's off my chest to no longer bother
                                       So thank you and fuck you

    This is such a drastic turn from your other writes and one that returns me to dark times in my own life. What stands out to me is the inner strength that is prevalent in this poem. The ability to turn evil into a usefull tool and elevate yourself above the demon. Demons, are what child abusers are, undeserving of forgiveness for harming the innocent and defenseless. An excellent piece and one for my favs, for i will read it often. It gives me hope that I can climb the same mountain and join you at the summit. 10++++++++++++

    Wow!! This poem was a really good emotional dump. What doesn't kill you make you stronger and wiser. I am with sweetchinee, forgive and forget but remember the lesson taught. Great write.....E

    i think this poem reflects alot of emotion.... its good that you got all the negative emotion out and can see the brighter side of things.... but forgiveness is the key not for those that hurt us but for out own healing and spiritual well being... good write!
