SECOND LOOK

SECOND LOOK

take a gulp of reality
doesn’t it taste bitter
now dig amongst the trash
see the rusted metal glitter
look through the tattered clothes
of the dirty, smelly bum
see his soul in his eyes
and listen to him hum
see the wrinkled old lady
and her toothless smile
the old man loves her beauty
and her little old lady style
there’s a crumbling shack
over the brambled hill
visually not worth calling home
but it’s home to someone still
who’s that ugly child
sitting alone on the swing
soon he’ll go home to mom
only she knows the joy he’ll bring
the cover may be worn
of the Holy Book
but like anything in life
warrants a second look

You show that you have a keen eye in this piece. Thought-provoking and raw, but so real. You've got to look hard to really see people, to really understand. You said it so well ;-)

Very true, I gave this an 8 the cover may be worn, more than twice looking

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
