    Poem Commentary

baseball was me and fathers glue...but he loved me more than anything.

    home

    the phone call has come
like a bill in the mail
like a snail, news, will eventually reach a destination

    i knew it would

    can you come home

    a father, my father
has grown tired of his bright eyes
and he wants to say good-bye
i remember the days when you watched for me on the stoop
when those boys would chase me home

    how when thurman munson died
you stayed up with me as i cried
    at home
every game i won or lost you were always there
    when i came home
and i always saw you hiding among the trees
    at the ballpark
    when i failed and fell
    you never yelled
and still allowed me to come home
    but
you always sent me back out into the street
    back onto the diamond
    because you had to
for all of this never hated you
so now i return to this place
with the facts on my face
    that
home is where my heart is
the place where my father lived

i will see him when i round the bases
    and come
    home.

WOW! What a touching tribute to your father and the security a loving parent provides. Excellent write.

Thank you, he was/is an amazing man.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
