    Lost Time

I don't have time to sit and chat
I'm busy now, must feed the cat
I cannot take the time today
Such things would just get in the way

Important things that I must do
    Like watching TV, making stew
It pains me to whisk you away
A hectic life I have today

    Why don't you call?
    Where did you go?
    I've missed your voice
    My spirit's low

You're so important to me, dear
Did you not know while you were here?
    My busy-work can surely wait
Can we catch up, is it too late?

Oh what I'd give to just return
For my attention you would yearn
My darling child can you forgive
    The inconsistent life I've lived?

My son, my daughter means so much
What I would give for one more touch
I would not tune you out again
I've done to you the greatest sin

    Ignoring your desire for me
To watch what you did and to see
The things important just to you
I'd give up all for "I love you."

LOL...yep, I think grandchildren ARE our "second chances." I also think they're a little revenge on our children. :) I find now that I'm taking in teenagers who've been kicked out of their homes...so maybe I'm a child ADDICT! Thanks for reading...I always love your poetry and appreciate your comments. ~~Sandy

A wonderful poem. Having kids myslef, I can appreciate the emtion behind it. I like the rhyme format. It is well executed and doesnt get in the way of the natural flow and imagery. This poem makes me want to be better. Thank your for sharing.

This is graceful and with pure beauty of the heart, yours. This shows the busy life in a world we sometimes feel mad, as though there isnt enough time in a day. You have told them well, that you love them no matter what.

A hectic life many live. Hindsight bites sharply whilst life continues. A day becomes a year, a year becomes a decade. Great write. 10

The old "Cat's in the Cradle," thing isn't it?

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
