I have Been to Neverland

I have Been to Neverland

I have been to Neverland
I didn't have a care
Where Life was extra-special
And laughter everywhere

The skies were always blue and
Dreams came true each day
I didn't need a plan 'cuz
All I did was play

The thoughts I had were simple
The truth was black and white
I knew what really mattered
And what was wrong or right

A friend was had "forever"
There wasn't any doubt
That sometimes I'd be chosen
And sometimes be left out

A treat was known at sundown
Fire flies came out to shine
And wonder filled my heart when
I thought the world was mine

I have been to Neverland
Where children are not hurt
By words of condemnation
While playing in the dirt

Enchanted was my world then
All days rolled into one
With summer's heat upon me
And worries? Not a one!

My Grandma was so careful
She watched me to make sure
That all my words were thoughtful
And thoughtful words were pure

A hurt was kissed so softly
And tears were wiped away
By hands so kind and gentle
At ending of the day

A wounded little spirit
So easy there to heal
"I love you" though unspoken
Was felt in every meal

I have been to Neverland
Not found on any map
Residing in a rocking chair
Safe on my Mama's lap

Sometimes we're "there" without noticing or appreciating it, aren't we? Thank you for you sweet comment. I try to remember my Mother every day and to emulate her in every way possible.

That's a beautiful place to be. No one talks about it, but everyone dreams of it. This is a poem that makes you fly without wings. Good work.

Thank you for your sweet comment. I'm a fan of your work. :)

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
