    Poem Commentary

A warning to young people, and older ones as well.  One day the Party WILL end...but it's YOUR choice HOW it ends.

    The Party

You laugh, you play, you dance away your life from day to day
You cannot see the things you do, you cannot hear me say
You'd better stop and think a bit, before your final fall
The balloons will burst, but even worse,
your last guest will leave and that's all

And then the Party will be over, the laughter will be done
Tell me friend, what will you do then, when your friends are all gone
The lights will all be turned out, the music then will end
You're used, alone and hurting when the Party ends

The joy will never be the same after your first high
You can never feel that way again, no matter how you try
Your body screams for something, just to kill the pain
Another fix, yes that is it, and then it starts again

They found you there, alone and bare, a lump upon the floor
Cocaine close by, and Heroine, a needle by the door
Your eyes were fixed, but not your heart, this was your final time
The Party left you without hope and so you chose to die

Thank you, Ginga, your words mean a LOT to me! Hugs, ~Sandy

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
