Why Don't You Listen
We used to be so close
Now I feel like you look through me
We’d share everything
Now we are strangers passing
We would know each other’s pain
Now my screams fall on deaf ears
What changed to make you turn your back?
Am I not still the same person?
Does my heart not pump the same blood?
Do I not breathe the same air?
You hear but you don’t listen
You see but you don’t register
You observe but feel nothing
I try to talk to you
Make you listen
Banging my head on a brick wall
Pounding my fists until they bleed
Why won’t you listen?
Why won’t you hear my plea?
My heart shatters in front of your eyes
Tears flood out like a torrential downpour
Yet still you tune out
Only hear what you want to
I need your support
I’m desperate for your understanding
I scream louder to try and reach you
My lungs burst with the agony
You stare blankly
Message not received
I grab you, shake you
Implore you, plead with your heart
Yet your shoulder brushes me away
So cold
I drown in loneliness
