My Heart
I heard the crack as my heart ripped in two
Looked down at my chest,
Blood seeping through
I watched as it tipped out and smashed on the floor
Gave one last thud,
Then beat no more
I fell to my knees,
Tried to piece it together,
Scraping up tissue in pointless endeavour
Pounding with fists of frustration and hurt
Watching my heart turn cold in the dirt
I picked up the shreds and held them to heaven
Cried 'Lord, please help me put this back together'
In desperation I turned to strangers around
Can anyone help me scrape this off the ground'
Met with blank stares I wept with deep sorrow
For I knew my heart would not see tomorrow
I curled up in a ball with my heart in my hands
Waved goodbye to my life and all future plans
As I breathed out my last and my body turned stiff
I longed for the happier times before this
