    The Prairie Highway

     Along the trail while it's still light
    Travelers stop to bed down for the night.
    While resting under the stars so bright
    They reflect on the day,
    And prepare for morning light.
    The hard packed soil is riddled with ruts
    Carved into the earth by wagonwheel cuts.
    Pioneers who lived more than a century ago
    Came across the prairie with still a long way to go.
    Yet, some settlers are just passing through the plains.
    They had nerves of steel and ice water in their  veins.. 
    They stop and stay...   mesmerizsed by this land.,
    Lay out a homestead of history nurtured by the past.

    Nurtured by the past,
    Becoming a part of God's great plan.

    a fitting homage to our fore fathers and the kind of guts and will that are so lacking today.....surely a simpler time maybe we will get a clue and begin to make our lives simpler again!! well done

    Wow! Super use of words. I write a lot about the mountains and high plains. Such beauty there. You've captured a real feel of the pioneer spirit as well as the beauyt of the area. Very well done

    I've said this before that I love this poem...it takes one back to the days when there were really tough times. Rugged settlers and there wives who stood by their side.................................g.
