    A Whisper Behind The Scream

I am guilty of the greatest sin of all-

A long time ago a glimmer caught my eye.

    It was beautiful, almost magical.

It sang to me the most haunting tune.

A tune filled with the promise of joy.

So I stopped walking and just listened.

Then the music started to fade

so I walked off the path and followed.

The pleasure of the sound was hypnotic.

I was captivated, enthralled and lost in it's magic.

Then, as fast as it started, it stopped.

I looked around and realized that I was lost.

I couldn't see through the fog.

    The wind was deafening.

    The sun eventually was smothered

    and darkness engulfed me.

    Every footstep was a stumble,

    every sound a shriek.

The air tasted bitter and water was acidic.

Every day was just a rehash of this endless torture

and I wanted all of it, to just end.

    Yes indeed, I am guilty.

I allowed the promise of joy and pleasure

    to shine brighter than life.

I allowed a distraction to take me off my path

    and lead me into darkness.

I am guilty of living life like it's an inconvenience

and I have paid with every moment since then.

All those lost years, missed opportunities

    and doomed chances of love.

And still I cling to the anchor while trying to swim.

    This deafening scream

    tries to conquer my sanity,

yet, no matter how hard it tries,

I can still hear the whisper of tomorrow,

    and that gives me hope.

I like this one. It paints a vivid picture. BTW: Where have all the poets gone?

"This deafening scream tries to conquer my sanity, yet, no matter how hard it tries, I can still hear the whisper of tomorrow, and that gives me hope"—this closing statement embodies the only reality that matters: Hope. Bravo!

well done in revealing the harsh truth that all try to deny.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
