    Sometimes fate steps into our lives and smiles.

    A LONG STROLL

    It was a beautiful evening in June. The park was busy with adults walking together and holding hands. Children were running through the grass, laughing and catching 'lightening bugs.' On a bench near the water fountain sat a lovely white haired lady - alone and enjoying the pleasant evening.

    A man with a cane came to the fountain for a drink.

    "Lovely evening...," he said, as he turned to face the woman.

    "Yes, it certainly is," she replied.

    "Do you mind if I sit with you? I think the old legs aren't as young as they to to be."

    "Why no, I think that would be alright."

    "It's such a lovely night. The kids remind me of when I was a child, and my sister and I would have contests on who would catch the most fireflies."

    "You did that too? Those were such carefree days, weren't they?"

    "Yes, they were. But then came the war. Dad was killed at Iwo Jima, and Mom couldn't hold the family together, and we were separated. But I always remember those days, and I never forgot my sister."

    "John?"

    "Betty?"

    Beautiful! Didn't see that coming. I was expecting a romantic episode of some kind -- brief but sweet.
