Poem Commentary

This is the 3rd poem in a series dealing with Depression - The 1st is Maybe Tomorrow, 2nd is On The Cliff's Edge and 4th is In A Blink Of An Eye ======================================================================= A serious dark look into depression and it's sometimes devastating outcome ... This disease is not to be taken lightly. This poem is written to convey just how serious it can be. I've lost family members and friends to it, and feel it is a subject that must be written about. Please do not perceive this to be a personal cry for help .. it's not .. It's a plea for awareness. Thanks for reading and God Bless all of you who have had this disease effect your lives and the lives of your loved ones. ..... Ken

In My Desperate Hour

I'm here alone in the dark ...
where no one can hear  ~
                                             me cry.
I'm slowly falling apart ...
              desperately,  I cling  ~
                                             to life.
Counting the hours that pass ...
with each grain of sand  ~
                                             that falls.
I'm slipping away so fast ...
lying here, curled up in  ~
                                             a ball.
It is here that I'll succumb ...
              watching my time slip  ~
                                             away.
Feeling so lifeless and numb ...
               there's just no escaping  ~
                                            this pain.
Gasping to take my last breath ...
can't find the will or ~
                                            power.
Overcome ~ I embrace death ...
               here in my desperate ~
                                            hour.

Thanks Franz ... I can only say that I have never come to this point .. but, being honest .. the thought had crossed my mind. As I stated before ... Depression Kills and can win if we let it. Thanks again Pal! :) Ken

Truly powerful and once again so relatable...I will never know how it was I didn't die one nite as I did every thing to ensure it....this poem gives voice to the feeling one has going into such a decision...

Thanks Marie - This one was difficult to write. I had to dig deep for the emotions ... But i needed to capture the thoughts of one commiting the act. This is the 3rd in a series of 4 poems that I wrote on Depression and it's effects on those inflicted as well as those who have lived with a loved one that has paid the ultimate price. Thanks again! :) Ken

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
