    Hunger

What kind of world is this that’s lets some children hunger?
While others seek treatment for over eating disorders
Are we helpless and witless has the whole world gone mad?
Is this world so large that food for the hungry can’t be had?

Empty excuses are useless in this battle to save lives.
So dispense with empty gestures that only further deprive.
Children can’t eat promises that fact is well known.
They die in the night before even half grown.

We fund wars for purposes that most can’t understand.
While hunger prevails as death’s deadliest hand.
Is oil to make fuel to feed our gas guzzling beasts.
More important than thousands of children who die in the streets?

Who can answer the critical questions posed here?
Who can feed a hungry child so that a life can be spared?
If it’s not you and I then who else will it be?
As God’s hands on this earth we must answer their plea.

So blessed are we in this great and rich country.
Not one child in this world should ever go hungry.
So take stock in your wealth be it large or be it small.
Prepare to sacrifice something and to answer the call.

With our Ipods and gadgets we enjoy life’s meaningless pleasures.
While others seek food for a child, a single life to be treasured.
Is our presence here on earth a game meant for frolic and fun?
I think not, look inward there is work to be done.

An age old question and so often the answer lies within the administration of individual countries and their greed, rather than making sure the monies given are distributed to places they should be. They need be ousted and new placed in, those who are kind and educated that can see the distribution to areas most needy. Of course there will always be some who care less for their own well being - and you can only help those who will do so much to help themselves. Wouldn't it be lovely if all could be redistributed throughtout the lands and equality reaign - in reality it would never happen - free will would give rise to some taking from those who cannot rise up agianst them for one reason or other - or plain theft.... We cannot solve the problems the world over sadly.... Great write though that certainly raises awareness and makes the reader ponder on the issue.... Well done, Anna-Marie.

"look inward there is work to be done" This should be printed on bumper stickers!!! A terrifically important message and one that should not be ignored...I am glad I discovered it!

Dear Hampton, ... I agree. I try to teach this to my kids. They are beggin' for these gadgets and I keep tellin' them we need to get some food ... (and give some) ... this is more important than and ipod but these parents are makin' things hard on me; these parents who buy their kids all this crap instead of teachin' their kids right from wrong ...... we are all to blame .......... A fantastic outpouring work relative to children starving in the world. Reality seems to be too much for most people as they rush home to watch their tv's to escape the harshness. Though much good is done, still many children are thrown to the wolves. I strip 'Bama from this undeserved Nobel Peace Prize and rightfully award it to you Mr. Hampton for your excellent, goodwill write! All agree .. stand up with a show of force!
