The Scent of Love

Poem Commentary

In honor of my beautiful wife and life's partner.

The Scent of Love

The scent of you is captured in the air

Flowing around me and over-whelming

my senses creating visions of

         both angels and demons.

The fragrance of your hair, your skin,

your breath, your sweet sweat all bathe me

in a shower so captivating that I cannot

escape and I fall prey to your mere presence.

Like a concoction of mind altering poppy’s

your scent intoxicates me and I become transformed

Your flesh reaches out to me across space and

we become as one without so much as an embrace.

My heart quickens as the scent of love

becomes for the first time obvious to me.

An aroma that so transcends reality

that I long for you to be ever near to me

so that I may be now and forever blessed.

Hampton, Oh my dear sir even Shakespeare's flirtatious lines cannot exceed yours. I can tell the words floated onto the page with accompanying cupids. ginga

Your words are kind and appreciated. Thank you.

That's a pretty good line for a small town Kansas boy, Charlie. Nice work

Thank you. I have come a long way baby...or have I?

This is precious, your wife must feel so special, for there are few men who pen such ardent fevers of love's hold to their partner's of many years... an added bonus . I love, of course, the oneness you describe, even though from "across space" as not needing even "an embrace"... this is beautiful... to feel this.

You have a romantic heart and I thank you.

Blessed indeed, wow Hampton , I knew you had it in you, love it, love it, ty WS( slingn love are ye )

My apprciation goes out to you John.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
