    Poem Commentary

Food for thought. One of many scenarios that might come to pass.

    The End

It began somewhere deep within the universe

as a gentle humming sound so faint that even the

most advanced of the million or so civilizations

that inhabit the stars did not detect it.

The hum slowly grew louder over a span of ten million

years until it reached such a pitch that slight vibrations

    reached nearby galaxies.

Within the next twenty million years the hum and the

vibrations became so intense that stars within a million

light years exploded scattering matter to all ends of the universe.

After 40 million years no galaxies had been spared and the universe

was filled with only dust as if some unseen power had

unleashed its wrath in order to purify that which had been contaminated.

    All civilizations no matter

     how rich

     or powerful

     or advanced

succumbed and The End brought forth a new beginning.

I've just watch the universe in discovery and yes..there is really a big probability that the universe will fade because of that dark energy...and this made me realize what are civilizations for if it is going to end...^_^ v

The question remains as to whether all endings bring about new beginnings. Thanks for visiting.

Hampton, This is a powerful meditation that reminds us now insignificant we actually are. It is very thought provoking. I did a piece a while back about the death and rebirth of the universe. You might enjoy reading it: http://www.originalpoetry.com/on-the-point-of-a-pin . What I tried to do was figure out how God would fit into all this. Scientists are now saying that universes are cyclical and eventually collapse in on themselves then at the point of maximum compression - Bang! Each universe has a big bang and starts all over. Our universe might have done this billions of times already and with possibly hundreds of billions of universes out there, what does that say about the nature of God? Although my poem sounds cynical at first, it's really hopeful if you read it carefully. That's the same feeling I get from your piece here, that there is a continuity that transcends any single individual, planet, solar system, galaxy or universe...

You may well be right my friend. Thanks.
