Poem Commentary

A friendly reminder

Forever–aster

A Latin term is “aster”.. meaning only partially resembling

Or “second rate” in cases where one is negatively articulating

Going hand in hand with “doggerel” as in marked by inferiority

Especially when critiqued by those who claim superiority

For those that might occasionally pontificate

And look down upon us as poetasters

I can readily relegate

Their opinions to those of criticasters

The moral of this write is simple

We may be just the “the little people”

But poets we are also dear reader

And we welcome your open chider

But no one here has been so appointed

To assume the role of the one anointed.

So comment you may as poetic teacher

But please shed the cloak of the pompous preacher

Oh, how correct in meaning, structure and rhyme. It is so easy for one seat themselves upon a throne and perceive all others as their subjects.

You express wise sentiments just so. It is a deserved chiding. Drew.

Thank you!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
