Beowulf
Because the crows were screaming in the night,
Yet crickets chose to hold their evening song,
I knew of your approach through shadows deep,
I knew the wait would not be very long.
And so I steeled my nerves for your attack,
And leveraged my advantage, for you see,
While I had ample cause to be afraid,
You had no cause to be afraid of me.
But well I knew that evil could not bide
When virtue chose to put it on the run,
That darkness had no choice but to subside
Confronted by the morning's rising sun.
And so I stayed and held my ground that night.
For history would mark that fight as when
I slew the Grendel beast and laid to rest
The nighttime fear that chained the hearts of men.
Yet life is seldom simple nor truth clear.
In mortal strife I looked into your eye
And sensed It was revenge that drove you on.
You were a beast but still I don't know why.
Yet life is seldom simple nor truth clear.
In mortal strife I looked into your eye
And sensed It was revenge that drove you on.
You were a beast but still I don't know why.
