    Poem Commentary

A villanelle in honor of Sir Winston and the boys and men who saved Britain.

    Remember Why We're Here

Impart your bloody mark at end of day,
With honor show you are both true and brave.
Don't fear to stand and fight them come what may,

Nor give up hope and virtue we would pray.
Stand up against the brigand and the knave,
Impart your bloody mark at end of day.

For though at times you dread your darkened way,
There's still a world out there for you to save.
Don't fear to stand and fight them come what may.

Though Death would spin you in his dark ballet,
Do not resign to be their lowly slave,
Impart your bloody mark at end of day.

For what we choose to say and do convey
The values that we carry to our grave.
Don't fear to stand and fight them come what may.

Thus all will see you never knew dismay,
Fidelity and love was what you gave.
Impart your bloody mark at end of day.
Don't fear to stand and fight them come what may.
Remember why we're here at end of day,
With honor show them you are true and brave.
Don't fear to stand and fight them come what may,

Nor give up hope and virtue we would pray.
Stand up against the brigand and the knave,
Remember why we're here at end of day.

For though at times you dread your darkened way,
There's still a world out there for you to save.
Don't fear to stand and fight them come what may.

Though Death would spin you in his dark ballet,
Do not resign to be their lowly slave,
Remember why we're here at end of day.

For what we choose to say and do, convey

Don't fear to stand and fight them come what may.

Remember why we're here at end of day.
Don't fear to stand and fight them come what may.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
