    Poem Commentary

    Another anti-war poem. I thought, after returning from the war in Vietnam, that change was afoot. Society was galvanized against the war and I thought it a new beginning. I hoped for the end of war. That seems naively foolish in retrospect. Still I tire of wars, of more wars, of endless war... We need to find another way.

    Sacred Ground

     They balance truth upon a fence,
    Then pass their lies as truth and hence,
    They never deal with recompense,
    And trust is seldom found.

    While mothers pray these men make war,
    Still strive to settle every score,
    'Tis power that they hunger for,
    And greed with which they're bound.

    We've got to find a way my friend,
    Before we reach the brutal end,
    We do have values to defend,
    We stand on sacred ground.
