As Once There was a First Time
As once there was a first timeSo must there be a last.
As once our spring fruit quickened,
Our season soon was passed.
Our youth was filled with wonder as
We learned to trust and doubt,
We learned to map love's ups and downs
And what its all about.
It's sad that what we finally learned,
If known before the fact,
Was precisely what we needed
To keep ourselves intact.
Alas, those lessons can't be taught.
Like ships we roam the night;
We bare our hearts to rock bound coasts
Without a guiding light.
